Final design justification

For our final design we followed through on the idea of using 100ml containers because of spec points c-cost/ they were highly cost effective in how they were cheap to purchase and we could sell less for more. We designed our slime thick and colourful because of Spec points A- aesthetics/ they were very attractive in their bright colours, and spec Q- quality/ they were thicker and held together better. We decided on 100ml because of spec point S-size/ in how we believed 100ml was an appropriate amount to be used in a school E- environment.

We also decided on this final design due to testing and observing what others enjoy. One of our clients Tatiana stated that she prefers the slime softer and stickier, but other students actually invested in a firmer, less sticker putty from another source. When doing our testing, we discovered using shaving cream to make fluffy slime could aid us in selling smaller amounts of slime in one sitting because the shaving cream makes it appear larger. In our final design you can see variety in colours. We decided to do this because during our first selling many people were more interested in the colour-diversety.

Specifications:

Aesthetics

The product looks good because of the variety of vivid and pastel colours, glitters and effects. Aesthetics is the first thing the customers see, so it is important to have an attractive product. References criteria A, it can be seen that our product design aligned with our research off of instagram in aesthetics. They both have vivid and pastel colours.

Cost –

The product does not take a lot to make. 1L of PVA glue at the pound shop is 1 pound. 1 box of laundry starch/ borax is 8 pounds and we need only a few tablespoons to make the binding solution. Through this the product takes less than a pound to make before accounting glitter and effects.

Environment

The product is used in class an in home. The PVA glue was very precious and never wasted, with the laundry starch we over-estimated how much we would need, and in the end we had a lot left over. We avoided wasting any slime by mixing it with another one and creating a new colour and texture which made it new. When creating the product, the area often got messy, but pva glue cleans away easy with water. One issue was the staining of food colouring, but often we would switch to watercolours. You can see this referenced criteria A in how many of our research of the people using the slime were playing with it at home at a desk or a cool dry surface they had easy access to

Saftey

The product is not non- toxic but is completely safe if you do not consume it. There were some issues with the product staining hands or being too sticky and getting stuck to skin and nails, but after altering our product it became suitable again. We worked safely when making our product by working in a clean and tidy area, being careful to not mix and of the products with the tubes of food colouring and poison them.

Size

The size of the product will be about 100ml, so a small handful. Near the end we did a raffle for a 1L amount of slime. The promotional material also ranges from size, from small posters to 15x10 posters. Referencing back to criteria A, you can see that the slimes vary in size, many of the ones sold by instagrammers were sold for approx 300ml but because wanted to sell a limited amount we sold them for 100ml and less.

Function

Our product is meant to be played with and used for stress purposes or even just enjoyment. The user can essentially do whatever they please with the product but traditional functions are stretching, rolling, twisting, squishing, etc.

Function

Our product is meant to be played with and used for stress purposes or even just enjoyment. The user can essentially do whatever they please with the product but traditional functions are stretching, rolling, twisting, squishing, etc.

Materials

The product will be made from Laundry starch, pva glue, water, colouring, glitter, foam beads. We know these are suitable referencing back to criteria A where we discussed what instagram slime makers use.

Production

Our price could have been made mass manufactured but they are difficult to find in shops and are often over- priced. Each of our products is handmade and often done separately and not in batch form. This makes each one more original.

Target market?

Our target market is MYP1-3. They will buy our product and use it responsibly.

Quality

Originally, the quality of our product was slightly faulty in how it was too sticky and stained. We did not realize this until our audience gave us feedback and we could see the product needed improvement. Linking back to Criteria A it can be seen that the slimes we researched had excellent quality that we tried to mimick to best of our abilities.

Manufacturing

The resources we need are primarily being purchased off of Amazon.uk. The only limitations being that the investment was heavier than intended. The design does not need alot of creation time because it is fairly simple recipe
