Our research

Primary research:

By: Laila and Abby

We will continuously gather research about what our audience wants through regular surveys. We will also consider creating an instagram account for our slime to both advertise/ promote and get a visual of how many people are interested. To see which slimes are popular, we will hand out approx 1tsp samples to people to see which ones they enjoy the most.  For our primary research we will be interviewing and surveying the students of the school about what type of slimes they would be interested in. we previously set out a slime survey asking what age group is most interested in slime, and in a generalisation, what slimes they wanted. Later on we will pull aside 5-8 students and ask them a detailed questionnaire to really understand what textures they want, the elasticity, the add ins and glitter, special effects. The age group most interested in our product is 13-15, which is the MYP4 class. Through this research we will primarily interview them to better understand our audience’s needs. Questions will also include subject matter such as costing, the fairest amount we can sell to make the most money. Research also tells us that 60.87% of people interested in our product are female and 39.13% were male. Through that we can better understand our audience is female. 73.91% said they were interested in our product< and 26.09 said they weren’t interested. More specifically in age, 4.35% were ages 10-11, 13.04% were ages 11-12, 39.13 were 13-14 years old, 30.43% were 15-16 years old  and finally 13.04% were 17-18. A total of 23 people answered the survey. In our survey people also stated the types of slime they were interested in.  Some of the types mentioned were galaxy, pastels, glittery, scented, Styrofoam orbs, transparent, metallic.

Secondary research:

By: Abby and Laila

To obtain secondary research we will go online and find different recipes so that we can make different types such as fluffy, classic, chunky slime. Also while online we will look at what other people have been creating and make a variation of the slime, recipes, ideas for different types of slime. To find ideas for different names and textures of slimes, we visit many instagram accounts like honey.guts(1), slimeswirls(2), etc. accounts like these cater to their audience heavily and through that we can see what the slime enthusiast audience seeks. We have watched many youtube tutorials that gave us recipes and ideas for the types to create and how to create them

Product analysis

Product analysis 1:

By: Laila

This slime was created by Slimeslime101. It is a yellow ochre butter lime with a soft malleable, non-sticky texture.

Asethetics:

The product is aesthetically pleasing because of its controlled smooth surface and deep colour. The shade of yellow is darker than canary and closer to an ochre - or honeydew which is what gives it it’s comforting appeal.

Cost:

The product has no initial cost as it’s primary use was the short video. But in experiences like attending the science museum, some putty’s and slimes can be sold in this quantity for 10-20£ if a high quality.

Customer:

The product is suitable for fidgeters. People who enjoy that very specific type of slime, opposed to those who enjoy firm putty slime or for example, play dough.

Environment:

The product in large quantities would be used in a household, a clean surfaced area so that nothing would get lodged or dirty the product. When broken up into smaller pieces the product could be used in classrooms or a workspace.

Safety:

Depending on the ingredients within the slime it will most likely be safe. If the recipe for this slime included borax it could be hazardous to skin and large long term use, or dangerous in even small consumption.

Size:

There appears to be around 12-15 ounces of this particular product. This is an appropriate amount for using in a calm, non - work related environment. If the product was this large at say, someone's desk it would be disruptive

Function:

The product is has essentially two uses, a toy for playing, or for stress relief. A slime this large and sort of texture appears to serve the sole purpose of entertainment. Which it does efficiently according to the view count.

Product analysis 2: slime OG

By: Abby

The product called floam was created by Slime_og and is a baby blue color with small foam beads.

Asethetics:

This floam is  pleasing to the eye since it is smooth and doesn't stick to her fingers. It is a familiar cool tone color which makes it more attractive. Pale blue isn’t overly complicated and the majority of people can agree it is an enjoyable, nonthreatening colour.

Cost:

Floam slime is usually charged less in shops surprisingly. Usually because a lot of the product is taken up by the foam beads and less of the actual putty. A slime for this amount and product in stores could, but does not necessarily cost £5

Customer:

This product is targeted toward younger children since they generally like to play with these types of items. The slime portion makes it appealing and the foam gives it an interesting texture.

Environment:

This is used on a clean surface so the slime won't get dirty and can be used in schools and offices since it won't stick to any items and can be in a small portion

Safety:

This product if ingested is harmful since it contains borax which is a toxic chemical. Or if it is made with without borax it isn't harmful and would be  better for kids.

Size:

This portion seems to be around 10-15 ounces. This is good for homes as a stimulus for children. If used in the workplace the beads and the popping noises could be distracting.

Function: This product is used for playing or fidgeting. This is a helpful distraction if someone is also facing stress. This is used for play on this particular instagram account.

Product summary:

By: Abby and Laila

The parts we will use in our slimes are the types, we want to have multiple types to offer variety for the customers. Another thing we will include is the type of slime and the texture. The slime isn't sticky and has a texture that we should apply since it is soft and putty like but also not going to cause distractions. Some things we do not want to include is the amount of foam beads since it would be a distraction and the amount of each slime. We will be selling smaller amounts so that if our customers want different kinds they can buy multiple and not have too much of each one.

Research analysis design brief

Research analysis design brief:

By: Abby and Laila

We will attempt to make slime of different varieties. It is aimed at the younger kids such as MYP1-MYP4  in a survey they were most responsive to the slime. The different slime we looked at was beneficial since it allowed us to know what we want to make and how to do it. This is going to help us develop our product. We want the slime to be a certain texture and these videos help prove that since neither one is sticky and the first one smooth and soft. We having had done a pre-sale to get an image of what people will pay and what they want, the age group most enthusiastic about our product ranged from MYP2-4. Most people seemed to like ones with a variety of colours in one package, a few asked for more textured slimes with many foam beads, glitter, etc.
